5557 Roster of the 76th NY Vols. has, "TRASS, STEPHEN.--Age, 22 years. Enlisted at Norwich, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. G, September 1, 1863; transferred to Co. H, October 20, 1864; to Co. B, January 1, 1865; to Co. K, One Hundred and Forty-seventh infantry, January 28, 1865" The 76th fired the first shot at Gettysburg, and in the first half hour 18 officers and 151 enlisted men were killed or wounded. General Reynolds, killed at Gettysburg, was commanding the division of which the 76th was a part. 5558 Rouse Bisbee moved to Paris, Maine in 1801; lived in South Paris. He was a blacksmith and wheelwright. He owned one-quarter acre of land and a store in Paris. He bought part of 8 acres in section 3 on the easterly side of Mill Pond from Solomon Bryant. In 1802 he signed a petition to the House and Senate (Maine) for division of the town. He sold his store in Paris to Morse in 1803 and moved to Belfast, Maine and later to Portland. In 1810 he moved to Woodstock, Maine, built a mill and lived in Woodstock until his death in 1852. He was Moderator of the first town meeting held after the town was incorporated. In 1835 he was defeated as a candidate for District Representative for the State Legislature by R. T. Lurvey. 5566 Ruez E. Bisbee is manager of Bisbee's General Store (established in the 1880's), Town Clerk and Postmaster, Meridale, N. Y. (1950) In a recent letter Ruez Bisbee states that old town records of births, marriages and deaths in Meredith, N. Y. were lost by fire years ago.
