According to his son, William had a brother named Arza. William Bisbee was an expert accountant and became chief clerk of Dexter Ballou's manufacturing establishment where he remained until 1840. Following this he entered a mercantile business and in 1842 formed a partnership with his brother-in-law, Latimer W. Ballou, continuing until 1850. Three years following the death of his wife he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and owned a farm at Waterford, NJ. He was employed in a Philadelphia bank in 1888.
